And We Are Back...

I can't believe it is already September. Time tends to fly by these days. It was good to be back home for a while and to sleep in your own bed.
Nico recovered from his first round of chemo therapy, although he needed a steroid infusion right after we arrived home. His energy came back and he was in good spirits.

We left San Diego on September 9 and checked into the Worcester House for the first 4 days of our stay in Chicago. The Worcester House is part of Northwestern Memorial and provides housing for patients and their family. A room is only $80 per night. But the main attraction is its closeness to the hospital. It's basically across the street. It feels more like a dorm than a hotel, but we were happy to find any accommodation at all. All other affordable hotels were booked since there is some kind of convention going on this week. On Saturday I will move to the Residence Inn again for the remainder of the stay.

On Wednesday Nico was scheduled to get a central line (PICC) placed into one of his arm veins. He was kind of creeped out by the idea to have a long, thin catheter placed that reached from his arm to close to his heart. But as it turned out, it was not a big deal and did not hurt at all. This catheter will stay in place for the whole duration of the procedure and will provide easy access for infusions, blood draws and so on.
